The Italian government has definitively approved the transposition of the EU directive on copyright and neighbouring rights in the global digital market. The decree strengthens the protections for authors and artists, adapting the copyright law to the contemporary digital environment while ensuring new opportunities for the creative industry. With this provision, the platforms that allow online content sharing will be responsible for what is uploaded by their users, respecting exploitation rights and the consequent remuneration of the owners’ works. Against this, there is a greater possibility of using material protected by copyright and a specific discipline for the exploitation of works out of commerce and particular exceptions for the non-commercial use of the works.
